NEW YORK, Oct. 25, 2017 – Sony Electronics, a worldwide leader in digital imaging and the world’s largest image sensor manufacturer, has today introduced an impressive addition to their full-frame mirrorless camera lineup, the α7R III, and A Step Ahead Prosthetics was called upon to provide some high tech equipment to this impressive event.

During the exclusive event held in a large warehouse in New York City, attendees had the chance to test Sony’s new camera and lenses on various stages which were prepared throughout the building. One set, in particular, depicted a futuristic scenario (think Blade Runner) in which models were inspecting one of our cutting-edge prosthetic arms, sporting a beBionic Myoelectric hand —a Myoelectric-controlled arm prostheses is equipped with electrodes capable of reading subtle electric tension produced by muscle contraction. These signals are then amplified and used to control the prosthetic hand and fingers.

A Step Ahead’s world-class technology in prosthetics and orthotics has been highlighted in several television shows and featured movies. Over the years our prosthetists have been approached by the Film and Television Industry to advise on new prosthetic advancements, produce prosthetic props and showcase technology. As always we’re happy to oblige and proud to share our craft while promoting the prosthetic industry as a whole.
