The Wounded Warrior Project’s mission statement is exceedingly simple: to honor and empower wounded warriors. For over ten years, the Project has been helping injured veterans recover both mentally and physically through a variety of programs. On July 18th and July 19th, the Wounded Warrior Project will be holding a pair a Soldier Ride cycling fundraisers in Long Island. The Soldier Ride Babylon on July 18th will be a twenty-five mile route from Lindenhurst to Overlook Beach in Babylon. The Soldier Ride Hamptons on July 19th be a thirty mile course starting at Ocean View Farm in Amagansett and ending at Marine Park in Sag Harbor.

Two of the cyclists participating, Itzik Gabbous and David Peretz, are both former Israeli Defense Forces soldiers who were injured in combat and subsequently came to A Step Ahead for prosthetic care. Itzik and David both lost their legs below the knee, but with some help from the Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces, they were able to get several prostheses from A Step Ahead, including custom cycling legs. Now looking to pay it forward, Itzik and David are coming all the way from Israel to help raise funds for their fallen brethren.
